Our Cutlass Marine rotomoulded HDPE float units (sealed buoyancy tanks) and aluminium framing kits form a versatile DIY construction system. They are used for everything from self-build floating cabins and skeletal house boats to modular bases for prefab cabins, garden rooms, floating saunas and office pods, as well as end-of-garden moorings and marina finger networks.

Pontoon floats are the core of every Floats and Frames build. Each Cutlass Marine pontoon float is rotationally moulded from high-grade polyethylene at our Poole, Dorset workshop, with hard-chine geometry and thick structural walls for outstanding buoyancy, stability and flotation.
These sealed buoyancy tanks suit DIY pontoon projects, self-build floating cabins, house boats, docks and jetties alike. The Cutlass 400 has a 6 mm wall for tidal, freshwater and brackish water; the foam-lined 400F and 600F add a 16 mm closed-cell PE foam inner skin for habitable and heavy, multi-storey floating homes.
Every float tank has an access cap and a ballastable cavity to trim your pontoon. Each one is fully recyclable and repairable, and is rated for a service life of up to 60 years. Pontoon units are available for sale on their own or as part of a complete modular kit.

Our modular pontoon base system combines Cutlass Marine floats with bolt-together aluminium framing, so you can set any beam or buoyancy and build a floating platform to any length in 2.464 m increments. It is the fastest route to a self-build floating deck, dock or jetty.
It is a robust, scalable base for floating home superstructures, floating car parks, driving-range greens, industrial pontoons and waterway-maintenance rafts. Multi-float and framing-module variants suit the loading and dimensional requirements of any build; modules launch straight from a riverbank or slipway and bolt together with only spanners.
With no submerged metallic parts there is no blacking or hull maintenance, and every pontoon base is disability-accessible, reconfigurable and extendable. Standard and bespoke modular pontoon bases are available for sale across the UK.

Building on our pontoon bases, we supply complete bolt-together aluminium houseboat and floating home kits, from a compact single-storey floating cabin to a multi-storey modular floating house. Each self-build houseboat kit bolts straight to our Cutlass floats, so construction starts immediately from a riverside, marina berth or mooring using only spanners and a battery driver.
Kits ship as modular panels: side frames, roof trusses, window and door aperture panels, bulkheads, covered-deck modules and balustrade rails, combined into any layout of rooms, terraces and glazing. From an open-plan studio pod to a three-storey liveaboard residence, the underlying floating home kit is the same.
Where appropriate we advise on structural configuration, buoyancy loading and VAT zero-rating for qualifying permanent dwellings. The system is deliberately DIY-friendly, so even first-time builders can raise a rigid aluminium houseboat frame in days. Floating homes and houseboat kits are available for sale UK-wide.

Variants use wider float spacing to balance cost and buoyancy, with options for articulated joints, gangplanks, access ramps, pile-roller assemblies, decking and flood/tide resilience.

Every Floats and Frames component is designed, moulded and fabricated in-house at our Poole, Dorset workshop, where we run a full marine fabrication and rotational-moulding facility.
Alongside our float systems and framing kits we take on custom pontoon fabrication and bespoke commissions: land-based cabins, self-assembly building systems, renewable-energy prototypes, personal watercraft, hovercraft, airboats, film and TV props, and one-off aluminium or ferrous metalwork.
