When a marina floods, the damage usually comes from the difference in movement: the water rises, fixed stagings and stanchions do not, and boats end up strained against structures that cannot move with them. A flood-resilient mooring removes that difference — the berth itself floats, rises with the water, and settles back down with everything still attached and undamaged.
We design and fabricate the systems in Poole, Dorset, and retrofitting existing marinas is a core use: adding buoyancy to what is already there rather than rebuilding it.

How a flood-resilient retrofit works
The principle is simple: give the existing mooring its own buoyancy, then release it from anything fixed that would hold it down. We use Cutlass Marine floats and modular aluminium framing to carry existing stagings, with guide piles, anchors or articulated shore connections keeping everything located while it moves vertically. Because the system is modular it can be phased berth by berth around a working marina.
Common questions
Can our existing pontoons and stagings be reused?
Often, yes — that is the point of a retrofit. Where the existing structure is sound, floats and framing are added beneath it and the fixed connections are replaced with ones that allow vertical movement. We assess what is reusable per site.
How much disruption is there for berth holders?
Retrofits can usually be phased — a run of berths at a time — rather than closing the marina. The Pillings work was carried out on a live mooring pond. ✎ [confirm phasing detail]
How high a flood can it ride?
The system rises as far as its guides and connections allow, which we design against your site's realistic flood levels. The aim is that a flood becomes an event the moorings ride out, not one they need repairing after.
Is this only for inland marinas?
No — the same approach suits river moorings, mooring ponds and sheltered coastal sites. Anywhere water level movement is the problem, floating the berth is the answer.
